They say to “never judge a book by its cover,” but I disagree! A cover is meant to attract readers and pull them in - like bait glinting in a pond of fish. It’s a visual representation, or teaser, of the book’s contents.
Even though I think Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die is worth a read, the cover isn’t very appealing to teens. It’s plain and simple, but it doesn’t really grab teens’ attention. So I redesigned the cover to make it more interesting to teens - you guys. My cover redesign is a messy desk with teen-esque items: earbuds, laptop, candy, schoolwork, pencil, etc. And on top of it all, the title “MADE to STICK” is written in dried hot glue on a smooth slab of black wood. It’s literally rising above our natural habitat, making it the center of attention of the cover redesign. Below the title, there is a hot glue gun. It gives the notion that “sticky” ideas are crafted, just like the title. You may not have noticed this, but I set up the items to lead your eye throughout the cover redesign - so that you look around and stay interested. This messy desk of a cover can also be a representation of our scattered lives… We don’t know what we’re doing, but we’re eager to experience new things.
If you’re looking for another way to procrastinate, here ya go! Take it. Embrace it! At least you’d be learning valuable information instead of glazing over memes. Could help you get your life together, ha ha ha…
